The Real Reason Your Energy Changes: A Guide to the Six Core Influencers

Some days feel magical. Everything is going your way. You wake up from a long night’s deep sleep, you hit all the green lights, the person in front of you pays for your coffee, you feel excited about your day, your work brings you meaning. And some days drain you in ways that leave nothing to be desired. Nothing goes your way. What exactly creates that shift? Why does your energy feel expansive one moment and depleted the next?

Your overall energy determines your overall potential, and it changes moment to moment. Stress and engagement decide how much of your potential is available right now. Every situation sparks an energetic response, your Energetic Presentation. That response is either anabolic (expansive, fueling growth) or catabolic (draining, limiting), influenced by stress - tension, anxiety - and engagement - motivation, buy in, desire. And underneath those moment-to-moment shifts are deeper forces.

Your energy is shaped by six core influencers: spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, social, and environmental. Each one can amplify your energy or drain it. When you understand how they work, you can reduce stress, increase engagement, and access more of your potential.

Your spiritual energy expands when you feel connected to meaning. When your vision is clear, your decisions are centered in your values, and your actions align with something bigger than yourself, your energy grows. Purpose fuels determination. Values create conscious awareness. Alignment brings fulfillment. Faith sustains you in the short term; resilience sustains you in the long term. When this influencer is strong, you feel guided and anchored in your deeper why.

And then there are moments when you can feel yourself drifting - doing the things you’re supposed to do, hitting the marks, showing up, and none of it feels connected to anything that actually matters. It’s like the thread that usually ties your life together has gone quiet. You’re moving, and not guided. Achieving, and not fulfilled. Underneath it all is a subtle ache that says, "I’m off my path." When your spiritual energy drops, you lose the sense of meaning that steadies you. You feel off-center, directionless, and a little hollow inside, even if everything looks fine on the outside.

Your mental energy isn’t about what you think - it’s about how you process thoughts. When this influencer is strong, your mind feels clear and available. Presence sharpens awareness. Alertness fuels concentration. Focus creates clarity. Planning turns clarity into action. Creativity sparks new ideas. Intuition guides decisions. The right level of stimulation keeps your mind alive and engaged. Mental energy lets you think with precision rather than pressure.

When your mental energy is low, your mind doesn’t feel like a resource - it feels like noise. Thoughts scatter, focus slips, and even simple decisions feel heavier than they should. You try to think your way into clarity, and the more you push, the foggier it gets. You’re busy and not productive, active and not effective. Your intuition goes quiet, creativity flattens, and your mind feels like it’s working against you instead of with you.

Your emotional energy acts like a barometer. It tracks stress rising or falling and reveals whether your energy is fueling or draining you. When this influencer is strong, you can feel your emotions without being overwhelmed by them. Awareness builds understanding. Expression creates release. The right level of emotional stimulation sparks excitement. A regulated emotional state creates the internal stability that supports the way you show up.

Emotionally low energy feels like carrying a weight you didn’t realize you picked up. You’re more sensitive, more reactive, or more shut down than usual. Feelings sit close to the surface, and you don’t have the capacity to process them, so you either push them down or get swept up in them. Joy feels distant. Motivation flickers. Everything feels like "a lot." It’s not that you’re broken - it’s that your emotional system is overextended and under supported. You’re holding more than your body has room for.

Your physical energy is visible. It shows up in how you move, act, and engage with your day. When this influencer is strong, your body feels like an ally. Sleep restores energy. Nutrition sustains it. Movement builds capacity. Strength supports endurance. Managing pain preserves what you have. Physical energy is the foundation that supports everything else.

When your physical energy drops, your whole world slows. Your body feels heavy, tired, or unresponsive, even if you’ve rested. You move through your day like you’re wading through water - everything takes more effort than it should. Your muscles feel tight, your breath feels shallow, and your capacity shrinks. You’re not lazy; you’re depleted. Your body is signaling that it needs something different, and you’ve been overriding it for so long that listening feels foreign.

Your social energy is created through connection. When this influencer is strong, relationships nourish you. Communication builds influence. Interaction strengthens connection. Support networks create stability. Nurturing relationships expand your capacity and help you feel held.

Low social energy shows up as feeling alone in rooms where you used to feel connected. Conversations drain you. Interactions feel like work. You’re surrounded by people, and you don’t feel supported by them. You either over give to keep the peace or pull back to protect yourself. You’re present, and not nourished. It’s a quiet kind of loneliness - the kind that comes from not feeling seen, not feeling understood, or not feeling like you can show up as your full self.

Your environmental energy is shaped by the spaces and conditions you move through. When this influencer is strong, your surroundings support your clarity and capacity. The right setting strengthens focus. Comfort supports sustained effort. Tools and systems help you stay engaged. Your environment either energizes you or steadies you.

When your environment is working against you, your whole system feels unsettled. The space around you feels chaotic, cluttered, or overstimulating, and your nervous system never fully relaxes. You’re distracted, scattered, or on edge, unable to find a place that grounds you. Your surroundings drain your clarity and creativity instead of supporting them. It’s not just the space - it’s the way the space makes your body feel: compressed, unanchored, and unable to breathe fully.

Understanding when your energy shifts - and what actually influences those shifts - can make a meaningful difference in how you consciously show up in your life. When you choose how you respond instead of reacting out of habit, you take hold of your stress and engagement levels and turn them in your favor. And equally important, you directly impact your potential. This work is not easy, and it is an investment people seldom make because they don’t know any better. These concepts aren’t hard, and they take time to build.

I invite you to draw a circle and divide it into six slices - one for each Energy Influencer. Choose a color that represents each one. Starting from the center, shade each slice outward until it reflects your current satisfaction level with that influencer. If you feel fully resourced in an area, fill the entire slice. If you feel depleted, let the color reach the edge only as far as feels true for you. Let your body guide you more than your mind.

Then open your journal and explore what each color, influencer, and level reveals about you. Where are you energized? Where are you stretched thin? Where are you longing for more support, connection, or alignment? Finally, decide where you want to pour your attention. Do you want to deepen the influencers that already feel strong and fulfilling, or tend to the ones wanting for care? Let the circle become a mirror - a visual snapshot of your energy, your needs, and the places calling you back to yourself.

Create, write, or move - and notice what your energy is trying to tell you.
